| INTRODUCTION | The Jnick Foundation is a private trust formed by an ‘expatriate’ Marlborough family. The Young Rider Scholarship is a program conceived and funded through that trust. It was established in 2008. | |
| MISSION | To encourage, support and grow the sport of motor-cross in the local Marlborough community, and provide opportunities for young riders to become part of a professional culture that teaches them the benefits of teamwork, commitment and reward, and readies them to go forward as future ambassadors for the sport. | |
| SCHOLARSHIP OVERVIEW | The Jnick Foundation Scholarship is broken into several parts and is managed by Peter Grinter Motorcycles and delivered through the PGM Racing Team. The Full Scholarship, awards three young riders each year, for a full season of motor-cross and provides the motorbikes and the technical, financial assistance, team management, planning and rider mentoring, to ensure each rider gets the most out of their year. Secondly is the Alumni Recipients program, being those riders who were awarded the Full Scholarship in the previous year. These riders are provided with funding assistance to purchase a new Kawasaki motorcycle, and are eligible to participate in the Team Assistance Program and be part of and benefit from being in the PGM Team. Finally is the Team Assistance Program. This is a discretional cash pool available to the team to assist in “out-of-pocket” expenses for travel and accommodation to “away” events, and assistance with entry fees. Every member of the PGM Team is eligible for this assistance. The scholarship’s first year was 2008, and based on its success, is planned to run for a further four years. | |

| THE PGM RACING TEAM | The PGM Racing Team is run by Peter Grinter Motorcycles and consists of fully or partially sponsored Kawasaki riders, previous Jnick Foundation scholarship recipients, and this year’s current scholarship recipients. PGM Racing provides the management, resources and on-track equipment and assistance to unify the team. The Jnick Foundation has also supplied two large enclosed tents and raised flooring to the team, to make the on-track events more comfortable. The Jnick Foundation is supplying a $5,000 budget to help all PGM Team riders with entry fees, accommodation and travel. Again for 2010, is a 15% team discount on parts and accessories purchased through Peter Grinter Motorcycles. |

| WHAT IS EXPECTED OF OUR RIDERS? | Riders become part of the Peter Grinter Kawasaki Racing Team, and as such, are representatives of the team, of Peter Grinter Motorcycles and of Kawasaki. At all times riders must support, promote and be good ambassadors for the team, the brand and the sport. Riders must participate in a minimum list of nominated events, attend planned training and other team activities as required, wear the approved team clothing at all events, and maintain their motorcycle in clean and tidy condition. |
|
| WHAT DO RIDERS NEED TO PROVIDE? | Riders are required to provide fuel, oils, their own riding gear, and their individual travel and accommodation expenses (as and if required). | |
| WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF A SEASON? | The scholarship recipients return their motorcycles and can be provided with $1,000 to assist in the purchase of their own motorcycle. The old motorcycles are sold to the scholarship rider or into the community at a discounted rate, affording more opportunities for new riders to get into the sport. Three new motorcycles are then purchased for the next season by the Jnick Foundation, with the kind assistance of Kawasaki New Zealand, and are prepared and managed by Peter Grinter Motorcycles. |
|
| HOW ARE RIDERS CHOSEN FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP? | Riders are selected based largely on the following:
Riders selected can be first time riders, experienced riders, and riders of either gender. Riders, however, must be under 18 years of age, and live in the greater Marlborough area. Rider selection is a private process; however we welcome nominations for deserving candidates to receive the scholarship. |
|
| WHAT IS OUR HOPE? | Over the next five years, we hope to build a base of young passionate Kawasaki riders who progress through the ranks to become race winners and positive mentors for the next generation of motor-cross riders. |
