Kawasaki Good Time Scramble – Brad #303

It all started on Saturday, I went out to help mark out the track but somehow I managed to time it perfectly & arrived just when Pete & the helpers had finished. Luckily I had my bike on the back so it gave us a chance to see if it was going ok on the track.

SUNDAY: The early fog burnt of by the time it was the practice race & that was the last of the bad weather, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

RACE 1:  Wow thee must have been 40+ riders in the small MX class!! I got the holeshot. I was having a good battle & I also had a wee lay down but got back up to 2nd, then the leader did the same thing on the same corner!!. I took back the lead & won the 1st race.

RACE 2:  This was the age group race lot, there were heaps if fast guys in this one!! I got another hole shot YEAH!!!! I made a few mistakes; I also got some arm pump & slipped back to 4th.

RACE 3: Another small MX, another hole shot, I had an awesome battle with a Nelson rider. He passed me on the last lap but I still came 2nd.

RACE 4: Age group race. I decided to start from the back for passing practice. Trust me I’d rather start from the front!! I ate so much roost & had bruises for about a wee after. I made it up to 3rd by the last lap, I was very happy with that.

RACE 5: The feature race pro. I got an ok start & went to the inside & worked my way to 2nd by the first lap. Then to 1st by the second lap, it felt really good until I hit a berm to hard & smashed through it. I got over taken but got back on the track in 2nd, there wasn’t enough time to catch the leader. I still managed 2nd which was awesome.

I would like to thank Pete for getting my bike going so well. I would also like to thank Peter Grinter Motorcycles & Kawasaki for the cool spot prizes.

Till next time Brad # 303

Christchurch Junior Middle Of The South2008

We drove down to Amberly on Friday for the weekend of motocross. Saturday morning I got up and traveled to the track and when I got there and saw the track I was so excited to race I couldn’t wait. For the practice race I went in the under 17 125CC class, which was the class that I was going to be racing in. Practice went well but there was one major issue, the dust was shocking. It was that bad it was dangerous you couldn’t see anything. The officials were flipping out and were trying to water down the track to continue racing.

My first race came up and I went out and got a good start I had a pretty consistent race and finished up 11th. My second race took ages to come around because they had to get the dust under control to allow us to race. In race two I got a good start I was third round the corner and I rode well and finished in 12th.  My third race I got another good start and I had some good battles with other riders and I finished up 10th. So day 1 of racing was over and I was sitting in 10th position. During the night it rained so when we raced the next morning it was very, very slippery. I went out in race four, the first race for Sunday and the track was very wet. I had an ok ride and finished up in 7th, which was a good start to the day. The fifth race went well I got an excellent start and I was running well in the pack and I managed to finish the race in 8th place. With the placings that I got I was 9th overall for the weekend which was quite good as my goal was to finish up in the top 10.

Thanks Shaun

Middle Of The South Champs

Hi everyone, this was my first event in the under 13 class. On the 4th and 5th of October Gracie, Shaun and I went down to Amberly for the Middle Of The South Champs it was awesome! In practice I was going to do 1 look lap and the rest of the laps as fast as I could because our best lap time would determine what order we were to pick our gates in.

Race 1: I got an alright gate as the best ones were taken. Into the first corner I was going really well, I was making a passing move on Isaac Godsiff into a corner, I braked really late & I pulled the front brake in too hard and my front wheel washed out. It took ages to start my bike & in the end some people pushed my bike so I could jump start it. I thought I was last so I just cruised for the rest of the race. BIG MISTAKE! (This cost me 15th overall)I got passed by the person in last but I thought he was lapping me so I didn’t care.

Race 2: I got the same gate as in the 1st race and got a good quality start in the middle of the pack. I was right behind Isaac again but he started pulling away slowly so I focused on keeping my position I was getting tired towards the end of the race but luckily no one passed me so I got 16th.

Race 3: Into the first corner a Suzuki ran straight into my leg I could feel the knobs rubbing against my skin but luckily I wasn’t hurt, I was running about 16th with one lap to go the rider in 17th was putting heaps of pressure on me but I held on to take it out.

Sunday.

Race 1: I got a great start in about 13th, I passed 2 more people into the 2nd corner I was gaining on 10th really fast as he made a few mistakes, I was making a move on a corner because he took the outside so I tried to get him round the inside but it was really slippery and I spun out. I ended getting 16th.

Race2: I got a pretty bad start but was moving up the field to about 15th on the last lap, I could have passed 14th but he only took the outside on the slippery corners and I didn’t want to come off again so I decided not to pass him as I was already in a good position so I got 15th.

I ended up 16th for the weekend 2 places better than the Canterbury Champs and I’d moved up a class, I am really proud of myself.

I went in the feature race for a bit more riding and surprisingly I didn’t get last.

The Marlborough Champs are up next on the 22nd and 23rd of November; I’m hoping to get a trophy even though I’ve moved up a class.

See you Mitch #67

KAWASAKI GOOD TIME

On Saturday most of the team went out to Havelock to mark out the track, it looked really fast. Sunday dawned a foggy morning. In the practice race I hung back quite a bit to get a good look at the track. There was a tricky piece in the track where you either rolled or jumped some bumps on the river stop bank.

In race one I was riding quite well but not as good as I wanted to. I ended up about 6th or 7th but there were older riders racing in my class.

Race two I was having a great time & lost focus briefly & almost face planted in the bumpy section but I managed to keep the bike upright. My place was in the top ten somewhere.

I was racing well in race 3, I keep back slightly practicing passing slower riders & trying to keep up my corner speed. This was my last race of the day & I finished with quite a sore body but I’m getting fitter every time I ride. I won a spot prize which I chose a “fly” drinking mug. Thanks to Peter Grinter & the volunteers for an awesome day & also to Kawasaki for the spot prices.

Catch you later Mitch

KAWASAKI GOOD TIME SCRAMBLE

Practice race: Dad had gone to set up the day before while I was in bed recovering from term 3 of school, he said the track was great and that it would be a fast track. I had my new Power Puff Girls graphic on the bike and lined up on the starting line.  I got an ok start and loved the corner out the back with the bumps. For once I hadn’t fallen off during a race and was so glad.

Race 1: I couldn’t wait to race and when I got to the track waiting for my turn I watched the pro riders and tried to look for some good techniques to use but they were going to fast to see. Finally we lined up ready to race then the signs went up 10 sec and 5sec bang the rubber band dropped. There were more people than usual in my race and I got stuck in between all the bikes and dropped back a few places. I was happy with my result and had a great time.

Race 2: It was another great race and I was getting faster on the straights and my goal was to get better at breaking at the right time and not breaking any bones. There were quite a lot of girls which was great because I liked it when there were lots of people on the track.

Race 3: I couldn’t wait because I borrowed Shaun’s KX125 and loved it, I want one now. It felt a lot safer and faster because I wasn’t so small and bunched up and also it felt like I had ridden it before even though I hadn’t.

Race 4: This was my last race in the ladies and wanted to make it the best. I had quite a good start and felt a lot more confident in my riding but wished I was on a KX125.

Race 5: I raced in clubman and was nervous and excited at the same time because Dad, Jadyn and I had a bet that whoever came last had to shout a jug of coke but I had no money so I tried my very best but Jadyn and Dad beat me, bummer I now owe them a jug of coke.

Race 6: Dad and I raced in the Father and Son (or Father and Daughter) I was pretty sure that I wasn’t going to beat Dad and I was right he beat me. I did pretty well though and had loads and loads of fun.

Thanks for the great riding.

Bye for nowGracie
