Marlborough Champs

Well this was my first race back since my bad spill at junior womens’ nationals and although I wasnt bike fit I had a quiet confidence for the muddy conditions. By the time practise rolled around I was beginning to feel those cruel nerves that make me want to run a mile but after a clean practice..well mostly clean, minus the mud caked to me and my bike, I was sure that the weekend would be completed as a smooth come back ride. Boy was I underestimating myself.!
In race one I managed to lead the pack after the first corner with UK #1 Sandra Silcock and Nelsons famous Alicia McLauchlan hot on my tail. The ride went without a flaw. It was really great to be battling with Sandra and when I had finished the race I wasnt even half aware that I had won it!
Looking on from the line for each of the remaining races the track had become nothing less than a mud stricken battlefield with riders down and out in huge ruts and bogs from hell. I knew that a smart mindset would give me an early advantage so I remained positive and told myself that there was no pressure. Again I was able to grab myself early leads and maintain a steady pace for easy wins with no falls.
It felt overwhelming for me to return to the track and have such an awesome weekend when I had merely set out to just ‘get back in the groove’. Thanks to all the riders for supporting me, especially Team Pygmy and Peter Grinter for sticking with me the whole way. Its been a long and bumpy road but it sure was worth it every second.! I could not have managed to win the Marlborough Champs without the commitment and kindness of everyone who helped.
Thanks Peter Grinter, Team Pygmy, Family and Friends.
