I came 2nd overall in the Peter Brown
Written by Mitchell:
Hi everyone
I was really looking forward to racing this weekend in the Peter Brown. I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Danwell & the team had marked out an awesome track.
Race one I nailed the hole shot, I felt good & was riding well. Scott Dixon managed to pass me for the lead; I sat in 2nd place to the chequed flag.
Race two & I stuffed up the start & work my way through the field up to forth. I fell off twice, each time having to charge hard to get back to fourth position where I ended respectably.
Race three, I was third around hole shot corner & Ben Wells went down, I passed him & focused on Scott who was leading. I rode like a manic, passing Scott. Charging hard I almost went over the bars twice but I hung on to take first place.
Sunday dawned fine & clear. WOW! What a great first race, everyone was pumped to get the $20 hole shot prize & trophy, Ben Wells got a good jump out of the gates & took the prize. It was a cracker of a race with Ben, Scott & I passing each other back & fourth, one minute I’d be in 3rd, then next I’d be in first. It was an awesome race & none of us fell off, this was my first real battle for the top three positions up for grabs, I came out on top taking first place.
Race two & Jack Dalton got an absolute flyer of a start & was gone, he rides a 65cc! I only had to beat Scott to take first overall & I was in front of him when my front wheel washed out & I came off. I was not happy with myself however restarting in fourth place I knew I couldn’t catch the others & as Scott was third, I feel I rode smart to finish fourth, being careful not to fall off again & lose 2nd overall.
Fuggles announced over the PA that no 8-10yrs were allowed to race in the sprint race. Myles, dad & I walked over to his truck & asked if the top 3 in my class could race & he said yes (thanks Fuggles). In the sprint race I got a real good start in the top eight round the corner which is good because it was all in the 85cc, I rode to an excellent 12th.
Congratulations to Willy Delany, Ben Wells & Scott Dixon for their trophies, but especially to Jack Dalton for getting a credible 4th overall on a 65cc machine.
Thanks to Ben & Scott for the great racing we had. This coming weekend is going to be cool with the Kawasaki Good Time Scramble, then the following weekend it’s off to Amberly for the middle of the South Champs.
See ya all, Mitch #67
2 hour Marlborough Cross Country Series
The first round of the 2 hour Marlborough Cross Country Series kicked off at 12.00pm on Sunday 31/08/08. We started standing behind our bikes hands on the rear mudguard. The shot gun went off & 40+ riders scrambled onto there bikes. Unfortunately I had a bad start not getting my kicking procedure right. So I was 2nd to last off the start but picked up to 15th after the first lap & setting a good pace for lap 2 also. Lifting to 5th but partway through the 3rd lap I made a mistake hitting a stick parallel with the track while attempting a passing maneuver & crashed. Fortunately I had a good gap back to 6th though ¾ way through lap 3 my clutch cable broke. I pitted soon after for a fuel stop & Pete told me to continue, I did dropping back to 8th & 3rd in my class. It stayed this way till the last lap & I managed to catch 2nd place & pass them for a close 2nd place finish behind the winner of my class. I broke my thumb when I took the fall but it’s making good recovery & I look forward to the Peter Brown Memorial MX this weekend & the 2nd final round of the Marlborough cross country 2 hour the weekend after. I’m also looking forward the Kawasaki Good Time Scramble on the 28th of September.

Kawasaki Good Time Scramble 28th of September
Hi everyone,
There’s been quite a break between events lately. Most of the team went out to the Link Water Club Day & had a great time ripping it up in the mud. There was a fair bit of bike swapping going on, so everyone got a ride on different bikes & generally had a ball. Our next event is the Kawasaki Good Time Scramble on the 28th of September. The team is pumped up & raring to go. It’s always a good day riding, with plenty of classes for every riders ability & age. Theirs no lap scoring, everyone just goes out & has an awesome time. There are great spot prizes at the end of the day. Information for this event can he gained from Peter Grinter Motorcycles on Grove Road Blenheim.
The following weekend is the Peter Brown Memorial; this is building up to be a big event this year. There has been some really hard work go into the organizing of this event. It should also be a fantastic 2 day meeting. Any enquires please visit www.mmcc.co.nz.
