Written by kees smith,

On the first day i had a couple of good battles with Mat Arnold and the track was reall boggy and muddy in some parts so it was heaps of fun.  All of my races where good and i had heaps of fun to.

Day 2.  I arrived later then usual wich was good because i got to sleep in.  I had an awsome days racing ending up 7th overall for the weekend.

I would like to thank Peter Grinter and the Jnick foundation for everything they have done for me over this season and i am verry grateful for everything. Its been an awsome experience. and thanks for all the support from the rest of the team.

Marlborough Champs

Well this was my first race back since my bad spill at junior womens’ nationals and although I wasnt bike fit I had a quiet confidence for the muddy conditions. By the time practise rolled around I was beginning to feel those cruel nerves that make me want to run a mile but after a clean practice..well mostly clean, minus the mud caked to me and my bike, I was sure that the weekend would be completed as a smooth come back ride. Boy was I underestimating myself.!

In race one I managed to lead the pack after the first corner with UK #1 Sandra Silcock and Nelsons famous Alicia McLauchlan hot on my tail. The ride went without a flaw. It was really great to be battling with Sandra and when I had finished the race I wasnt even half aware that I had won it!

Looking on from the line for each of the remaining races the track had become nothing less than a mud stricken battlefield with riders down and out in huge ruts and bogs from hell. I knew that a smart mindset would give me an early advantage so I remained positive and told myself that there was no pressure. Again I was able to grab myself early leads and maintain a steady pace for easy wins with no falls.

It felt overwhelming for me to return to the track and have such an awesome weekend when I had merely set out to just ‘get back in the groove’. Thanks to all the riders for supporting me, especially Team Pygmy and Peter Grinter for sticking with me the whole way. Its been a long and bumpy road but it sure was worth it every second.! I could not have managed to win the Marlborough Champs without the commitment and kindness of everyone who helped.

Thanks Peter Grinter, Team Pygmy, Family and Friends.

Marlbrough Champs

Hi everybody

The marlbrough champs was a awsome weekend held at mostons hill track. the pits were real mudy and only the 4×4 vehicles got in without a tow. Me kees and george(mchugh) walked the track it was mudy and good lines would be very important.the gates were on a slope which would make the starts abit more difficult.

practise was fun, found some good lines

i had a good first day cuming 4th overall

second day the track was alot dryer.my first race was bad i got 7th i was anoyed.but my second race i got 2nd which was awsome and that put me 3rd overall that was mean.

the feature race was good i got a bad start but made it up in the second corner beating kees and geting 8th.

it was a mint weekend till next time…

Middle Of The South

Written by Kees Smith,

On Saturday morning I woke up at 3 because we drove from Blenhiem to Christchurch.

Practise.  I found some good lines and was happy with the track.

Day 1.  It was an awsome day and me Shaun, Isaac and i had 4 awsome races, i think i was 10th overall at the end of the day, the only downside was it was super windy.

Day 2.  It wasn’t as windy on Sunday but the problem was that it was ment to rain, luckely the weather held out untill the end of the day. I finished at 10th overall, it was an awsome event and we all rode really good.

Next race is Marl champs, untill then Kees Smith  #48
